The proposed New Heritage Deal for Europe will create momentum. It will allow us to connect cultural players, bridging the gap between the local and the global and stimulating synergies across borders. It will give a future to vulnerable and often run-down inner cities through quality heritage projects while boosting the sustainable development of our regions through innovative actions related to cultural heritage. Well-placed investments in heritage sites and areas will help lift entire neighbourhoods from poverty, contributing to better social cohesion and inclusion. Targeted vocational training can help unemployed young people to hone their skills and play a part in restoring the heritage of their own environments and beyond. We should also make better use of the European Solidarity Corps to enable young people to work, as volunteers or professionals, on restoration sites, natural parks or cultural festivals.
